October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month, a time to highlight the importance of safeguarding online activity from harmful cyber attacks. Each Friday this month, we'll share tips to help our students, staff, and families secure their sensitive data and stay safe online. Tip #4: Never leave your devices unattended, even for a short time. Always secure your laptop, tablet, phone, or flash drive so no one else can use it while you're away. And while you're at it, tidy up your desk to ensure no passwords, account details, or important files are sitting out openly exposed. You'll leave with peace of mind AND a clean workspace! We hope you've found these tips helpful. To learn more about Cybersecurity Awareness Month, visit www.cisa.gov/cybersecurity-awareness-month.

Yesterday our DES students celebrated Unity Day! Our students started the day off by surrounding the building for a ceremonial hug of Driswood as well as many of our students supporting Unity Day by showing up in their best orange! Thank you to our Student Education Association for organizing the event! "Be a Buddy, Not a Bully!"
"Orange" you glad for awesome people in the world? 🍊 Driswood Elementary students donned orange on Wednesday to celebrate Unity Day, the signature event of October's National Bullying Prevention Month. Students wore orange and held a parade to demonstrate their unity in displaying kindness, courage, and inclusion in their school and community. Way to go, Owls! 🦉
National School Bus Safety Week is underway! Thank you to the bus drivers, mechanics, and all the behind the scenes administrators that get our students to and from school safely every day.
We are celebrating our school leaders this month! Principals are among the hardest working, yet often least recognized individuals in education. Principals set the academic tone for their schools, and it is their vision, dedication, and determination that provide the mobilizing force for achieving student success. We are so grateful for our principals who step up every day for our students and staff.
October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month, a time to highlight the importance of safeguarding online activity from harmful cyber attacks. Each Friday this month, we'll share tips to help our students, staff, and families secure their sensitive data and stay safe online. Tip #2: Don't click suspicious links. Sometimes you may get what seems like an email from a friend. But is your friend really the one sending the message? Always review the sender's email before replying to a message or clicking a link. Malicious files can extract personal data, monitor and transmit your activities, and even take over your device. Avoid suspicious or unnecessary downloads and scan documents with anti-virus software before opening. If you're still uncertain about a link, visit www.virustotal.com to check its safety. After many years of rising scores on the WVGSA test, JCS saw a steep decline during the pandemic, from which we have not recovered. The latest scores show staggering deficits in ELA and math that keep hundreds of children below the mark for proficiency. To ensure that our students are ready for academics and life beyond the classroom, we are adjusting our elementary education program for 3-5 grade students. Please visit www.jcswv.org/expansion to learn more. There will be a district-wide TWO-HOUR EARLY DISMISSAL for all students on Friday, Oct. 7, 2022, to support teachers as they prepare to make these adjustments. Thank you for your trust and support.
