Dear DES Families, We are happy to welcome back your children into our buildings for the school year. As you know our highest priority is their safety, well-being and education. Part of serving them is making sure that you are aware of the conditions in the building that may affect them. We are currently experiencing a heat wave in the area. While we inspected and pre-tested our HVAC systems prior to the start of school, some of them are straining to maintain optimal temperatures with the higher student numbers and outside temps. I want to assure you that we are taking steps for their safety and well-being. First, our administrative and custodial staff are monitoring the situation by conducting temperature checks and walk throughs in classrooms during the day. Any temperature exceeding our threshold will result in students being relocated to another part of the building. We don't anticipate this will be necessary, but we are prepared. Second, technicians are on-site actively making repairs to units. Third, we have ordered mobile AC units to place in any isolated areas that may be experiencing high temps as the units are brought back up to full capacity. We anticipate having those on-site in the building this week. We will keep you updated with any new information. Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions or concerns you may have, Kelly Osborne, Principal
