Students standing with their food drive donations around a Christmas tree

SHENANDOAH JUNCTION, W.Va. -- Members of Driswood Elementary School's Student Education Association developed their community service and leadership skills by organizing a food drive to benefit a local nonprofit organization. The Caring for Our Community Food Drive received generous donations from DES families for Kidz Power Pacs, a local 501c3 organization serving an average of 1,000 children in Jefferson and Berkeley Counties each week.

DES students were excited to help their community.

"I thought this was an amazing experience for students," said fourth-grader Lana Podolskiy. "It showed me that young people can help their community."

Jacob Alawadi, fifth grade, agreed, saying, "It was amazing to know how many people will be fed by the food and how generous other kids can be."
