Dr. Chuck Bishop at podium

CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. -- Local Rotarians got a chance to meet the new Superintendent of Jefferson County Schools (JCS) when Dr. Chuck Bishop spoke to the Shepherdstown and Charles Town Rotary Clubs during a joint meeting on September 27. Dr. Bishop highlighted the achievements of students and staff during the first month of school but also addressed challenges such as attendance and teacher recruitment.

As he outlined his goals for the district, Dr. Bishop talked about the theme "Elevate Jefferson."

"Let's take what we do well and do it better," he said. "Making sure that we are better today than we were yesterday."

Dr. Bishop added this includes exploring new partnerships in the community to provide more options for students for careers or education after high school.

"We want to increase our academic achievement and provide opportunity for all of our students to be successful, not only in school but beyond the classroom as well."

Dr. Bishop highlighted programs at James Rumsey Technical Institute and the recently announced MedEd program offering juniors and seniors career paths in the medical field through WVU Medicine.

Dr. Bishop will continue engaging with students and the community during a series of events scheduled for the fall. The next event is at 6:00 p.m. on October 4 in the auditorium at Jefferson High School. Visit www.jcswv.org/events for more information.
