Driswood students performing in a school play

SHENANDOAH JUNCTION, W.Va. -- Friends of Music has donated set dressings for a musical theater performance at Driswood Elementary School in Jefferson County.

The set dressings consisted of three faux tree-stump ottomans. Music teacher Angela Wyatt requested them for the school’s annual spring musical production that involves all fifth-grade students.

"The spring musical is a tradition we began back in 2010 when our school first opened its doors," said music teacher Angela Wyatt. "I strive to make this production a true theatrical experience, complete with costumes, props, and set pieces. The tree stump ottomans were used to elevate our set design and will also be used as flexible seating options in my classroom."

The donation, which is valued at $350, is part of a Friends grant program to support music education in Berkeley and Jefferson County schools. The grants typically involve instruments and music supplies not covered by regular school budgets.

The Friends of Music organization is a Shepherdstown-based, non-profit group founded in 1999 to support and promote musical excellence. It supports the Two Rivers Chamber Orchestra, the only professional classical music orchestra in the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia, and one of only three such orchestras in the state.
